Functional Medicine Boulder

Sustained wellness for a healthier and more balanced life.

What is functional medicine?

Functional medicine is a healthcare approach that aims to provide individualized and evidence-based care to patients. This is achieved through a comprehensive analysis of the patient’s genetic makeup, lifestyle, and biochemical factors across various disciplines to gain a complete understanding of their health condition.

In order to fully understand the patient’s condition, we perform a series of lab tests that provide us with critical insights. Armed with this information, we can develop a targeted treatment plan that will address the root cause of the illness. Our ultimate aim is to ensure that the patient receives the best possible care, and to achieve this goal, we leave no stone unturned in our quest for knowledge.

Organic Acids Test

Organic acids are products of the body’s metabolic pathways. Evaluation of these downstream metabolites from various metabolic pathways provides insight into important areas of gut health, mitochondrial dysfunction, neurotransmitter status, detoxification indicators, macronutrient breakdown, and nutritional status. This makes organic acid testing a valuable tool to assess the functional need for essential nutrients, diet modification, antioxidant protection, detoxification, and other therapies.

The Organic Acids Test (OAT) provides a comprehensive nutritional and metabolic snapshot of an individual’s health. The OAT measures 76 organic acids from one easy-to-collect urine sample.

Who can benefit from this test?

For those who:

• Have a chronic disease that can not be treated with Western Medicine

• Would like to address the root cause of disease

• Want to improve your health and have long-term results

GI MAP TEST

Research overwhelmingly indicates that gut health impacts overall health. The gut microbiome, in particular, plays a critical role in mediating the effects of diet and other factors on health, including digestive, immune, metabolic and neuroendocrine functions. Assessing GI health with the proper tools can help practitioners get to the root cause of chronic illness.

The GI‑MAP (Microbial Assay Plus) is unique in comprehensive stool testing. It relies exclusively on quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) technology to detect parasites, bacteria, fungi, and more by targeting the specific DNA of the organisms tested.

Who can benefit from this test?

Almost every patient can benefit from a GI-MAP gut health assessment. Some patients are looking to achieve optimal health, while other patients have been chronically ill and frustrated without a diagnosis for years.

Some conditions that warrant testing are:

  • Autoimmune diseases
  • IBS/IBD
  • Digestive complaints, diarrhea or constipation
  • Brain fog
  • Skin problems, like acne and psoriasis
  • Mood disorders, depression, and anxiety
  • Diabetes and weight loss issues

IGe Mold Allergy Test

Mold allergy is a type of allergic reaction that occurs when an individual’s immune system is exposed to mold spores or mold cell components – typically via inhalation, ingestion, and/or contact with the skin. Molds are a type of fungi which grow in moisture-rich environments such as damp areas in homes like bathrooms and basements, and high humidity areas in buildings or vehicles. In addition, certain occupations have been identified to increase risk for mold exposure: construction industry (e.g., builders, plumbers, HVAC technicians), farmers, food industry workers, janitors/cleaners, and health care workers.

MosaicDX’s IgE Mold Allergy Test measures an individual’s total immunoglobulin E (IgE) level as well as allergen specific IgE levels to 13 mold allergens, including common mold allergens like Alternaria, Aspergillus, Cladosporium, and Penicillium. This panel provides valuable insight into potential triggers for mold allergy symptoms in sensitive individuals.

Who can benefit from this test?

Individuals exposed to molds can exhibit many kinds of symptoms depending on their overall immune sensitivity and presence of chronic health conditions, as well as the type, amount and duration of mold they are subjected to.

Allergic symptoms can range from mild in less reactive individuals to severe in individuals with compromised immune systems or underlying mold allergy.

Genetic Test

This might be one of my all-time favorite tests because the information you get from this is unique to your genetic blueprint.  This makes it invaluable to know what diseases you are predisposed to and how to prevent them, what foods to avoid or consume for ultimate health, which nutrients you need, and so many other insights into your health.

Understanding the results and developing a personalized plan for your genetic blueprint is called “genetic counseling.”  A full intake of your health history and current symptoms will be taken during your consultation.  This will then be compared to your genetic results to design a health plan that will benefit you in the short and long term.

Who can benefit from this test?

Honesty, EVERYONE and ANYONE who wants to improve their health and longevity!
