Welcome to Hummingbird Community Acupuncture
Community Acupuncture Clinic was founded in 2004 by our lovely Samhitta Jones. In 2017 we changed the name to Hummingbird Community Acupuncture so we could stand out more in our local community.
Hummingbirds have a very powerful meaning in most parts of the world as creatures that are connected to the heavenly realms of the spirits. This small but powerful creature brings us messages to help us heal and to help us let go of the past through acceptance of the hard lessons that have touched us. Staying present in our life call in the sweet nectar of the spirits that is here to guide our hearts back home.
At Hummingbird Community Acupuncture we believe each person’s healing process in unique. We are here to meet you wherever you are on our journey, acknowledging that each one of us comes from a different background and needs their own unique approach. We have created a peaceful environment where acupuncture, sports medicine, craniosacral therapy, and deep transformational healing is practiced.
Whether you are suffering from a chronic illness or have a desire for deep awakening we can help. We create a comprehensive treatment plan for you based on your individual needs that provides a clear and attainable path to your goal. We start all of our treatments with a thorough evaluation in which we look at your health history, concerns, and goals to help us develop an effective treatment plan to speed the recovery of your condition. If you want to feel better, younger, and have more energy, come in for a treatment.
Joaquina Cante, Dipl. O.M., L.Ac., CST, Shaman
Joaquina experienced a major turning point in her life about 12 years ago when she made the decision to dedicate her life to healing herself so that she could help heal others. She started her journey at the Colorado School of Healing Arts where she completed the massage and CranioSacral Therapy programs.
During this same time, she also embarked on a path to reconnect with her Native American roots and started a rigorous spiritual training that took her down a path of becoming a Shaman. She has studied with Shaman from the Lakota and South American traditions where she grew up. Her unique skills add an intuitive touch to her treatments.
Joaquina strongly believes in the body’s natural innate ability to heal itself once it finds the path to travel. Her passion is to empower her patients by giving them the tools they need to heal and to remember their deep connection to life. Her treatments have been known to be very powerful and life changing.
Joaquina has participated in volunteer work in Peru offering acupuncture and herbal support for local communities. This lent her the experience in treating a wide range of conditions and taught her how powerful Chinese Medicine is. Her dream was to open a community acupuncture clinic here in the United States where anyone can receive deep healing.
Joaquina enjoys spending time with her family laughing, hiking, singing, cooking, and sharing life. She has a daily meditation practice of prayer and gratitude to the earth, spirits, holies, and all of nature.

• Pain and Injury Rehab
I respect western medicine and have utilized its benefits several times throughout my life. There are however many flaws within the western medical model that often prevent patients from achieving optimal health. Having experienced this firsthand with unnecessary surgery and unhelpful prescription medications I knew there had to be other answers. The answer I found was Chinese Medicine. The eastern medical model takes the whole person into account when treating disease and injury. By doing this dysfunction becomes clear within the context of a larger overall pattern. Alternatives to surgery and prescription medications are a reality when this approach is taken . I advocate a dual approach to health that considers both the eastern and western medical approach. I refer to western doctors when appropriate and when Chinese Medicine is integral for the best results I guide my patients down the path towards recovery.
How I Got Started
In 2001, while studying for my B.F.A. at the University of Colorado, I happened to walk by a Tai Chi class on the campus lawn. I was intrigued by the meditative and graceful movements I witnessed the students performing. Soon after I became a member of the class and began to earnestly explore Chinese concepts of health and healing. This led me to become a Tai Chi and Qi Gong student of Master Zhu Xilin, the top student of Master Shi Ming featured in Bill Moyer’s Healing and the Mind series. This experience led me to become a licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist so that I could share what I was learning with others and help people heal.
My Passion for Healing Pain & Injury
I have healed many of my own physical injuries from shoulder problems to low back and hip issues. I understand the way that physical dysfunction can negatively impact your life. My greatest reward is seeing my clients return to a healthy and active lifestyle. After an injury rehabilitation session with me you will get off the table wondering how you have lived with pain and dysfunction for so long. In addition to treating pain and injury I successfully treat a variety of other conditions. Please call our office to ask.
My approach combines a few alternative therapies in order to maximize your results. I use a large amount of hands on therapy during treatment such as myofascial, deep tissue, and bony alignment work. Following this needling is performed to release trigger points and balance the body’s energy. Finally, I give lifestyle recommendations as well as exercise prescriptions to make your results last.

Coming back to the United States, Samhitta had a vision to provide this kind of low-cost care for Boulder Acupuncture.
Samhitta has served the Boulder community for more that 18 years providing acupuncture, craniosacral therapy, and lots of compassion. She has truly left a beautiful legacy behind by touching so many people’s life. Samhitta has left the clinic in the caring hands of Joaquina Cante while she continues to explore life. She remains in close contact with the clinic.
